Week 6 Summer CSA Package
Chickens, blueberries, apricots, cabbage, and more

Thankfully this week is looking a little cooler! Man that heat was tough on my crew, the farmers working in the fields, and the produce.

Anyhow, this week we are going to feature whole chickens. Last week, oh about 3% of everyone chose chickens. The pork was clearly the preference! As a result I have a freezer full of chickens and my landlord says they have to go! I’m way overflowing my space.

So, this week we’ll have a full chicken in the bag and a good assortment of veggies to go along with it. We’ll feature plenty more chicken recipes too this week. I want to hear stories from everyone next week about how easy it was to cut-up their chicken, how much they enjoyed the roast chicken, etc etc! This is the most economical and versatile piece of meat you’ll get from Fresh Fork.

Two additional showcase items this week are the blueberries and apricots. While the peaches have been splendid, the apricots came on strong this week and we’ll feature those. The blueberries are also in full force.

A special pasta
Last week the large customers received a garlic scape and black pepper linguini. It was made from garlic scapes that were left over from our first week of the season. Ohio City Pasta froze the garlic scapes and made pasta for us last week.

This week we’ll feature another original creation from Ohio City Pasta. A few weeks back I took them several cases of spinach and garlic scapes. They cleaned them all up and made a ravioli stuffing, including garlic scapes, spinach, and ricotta cheese, and stuffed it inside of a whole wheat ravioli made from organic, locally grown whole wheat. It is simply divine.

This ravioli will be available in the large bags this week. If there is any leftover, it will be available next week via our website for preorder (http://csalogin.freshforkmarket.com). We will not have extra to sell this week.

Summer Week 6:

Small CSA Share
1 whole chicken
1 pint blueberries
1 head leaf lettuce
2 ct cucumbers
2-3 zucchini/squash
1 head red cabbage
About 3 tomatoes, depending on size
1 lb apricots
1 bunch beets or 1 bunch carrots (rotating for the next two weeks, everyone will get each)

Large CSA Share Small contents above plus:
2 lbs peaches
1 bunch green onions
1 lb green beans
1 package of ravioli
1 bunch swiss chard

Vegetarian Share
Small contents minus chicken, add:
1 bunch mustard greens
2-3 patty pan squash (depending on size)
1 pint cherry tomatoes
1.5 lbs plums (red or yellow plums, depending on what they pick)
1 bunch kale
1 bunch swiss chard
Choice of yogurt or eggs

Vegan Share
Small contents minus chicken
Add Vegetarian choices, minus yogurt/eggs
Add Luna Burgers
