Winter Share 2012-13 – Week 1
I’m going to be on the radio Friday, again on Saturday, and on TV on Monday. Lots of Fresh Fork out there! Mostly all about our Thanksgiving packages, which are selling fast.
Oh, and if you are interested in coming to tonight’s beer dinner, we had a few last minute cancelations. I have about 5 seats open. Register online at the link below or call my cell immediately: 304-281-3325. The registration page can be found here: Thanksgiving Beer Dinner
So, this week’s package. Yeah. Robert says I’m like a woman in a shoe store. I just don’t know when enough is enough. So I really had to focus to do my best to not overwhelm you with so much food this week that you are wasting any. At the same time, I need to capture it while it is available!
The centerpiece of this week’s bag is a whole, pasture raised chicken. This is probably my favorite protein that we sell. It is a generous portion and infinitely versatile.
Also new this week are Brussels Sprouts. I always laugh when I see Brussels Sprouts. So many customers complain about getting cabbage, but then the same customers get excited about Brussels Sprouts. They are baby cabbage on a stick! OK, they are downright delicious, but then again, I get excited about cabbage.
We also have some delicious apples and apple cider from Eshleman Fruit Farm in Clyde OH. Anyone who has been with Fresh Fork for a while knows that our apples rock because Rich Eshleman is so passionate and selective with his apples. This week’s showcase apple is a Winesap, which you’ll rarely find at a grocery store. They are crunchy, sweet-tart red apples. You’ll find them good for fresh eating as well as baking.
On the produce side, we have cauliflower (some may have some small black spots on them due to the recent heavy rains), greens (kale and turnip greens), beets with tops, and a “stir-fry” combo of small radishes, tatsoi, kale, bok choy, and arugula.
Last minute additions: Each year we have some last minute additions to the Winter CSA. I’ve ordered 25 extra packages this week. Tell your friends who are on the fence to signup before Tuesday at 5 PM to be sure to get in this week.
