warehouse associate / packer

Join Lauren (our Warehouse Operations Team Lead) in the Packing Room as a Warehouse Associate (aka Packer). In this role, you will be one of several packers responsible for the assembly of our weekly grocery packages. Packers set up in an assembly line at a conveyor belt - each packer responsible for a set of products to be added into each package.

 

There will be a mix of standing, lifting, and using simple warehouse equipment like pallet jacks. Our packing room is temperature controlled – set to around 50 degrees. Bring along a hoodie and hat, but you may find the pace is quick enough that you will stay warm as the hustle and bustle of just harvested produce gets packed quickly each day. No prior experience required - we can teach you the ways our of process once you join the team!

 

Part-time Schedule: Wednesday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm

Season: June through October

*We have a limited number of spaces available for college students June through August. Since our season runs through October, we prefer if a candidate is available the full season. Opportunity also exists for year-round work as a Packer.

 

Opportunity for more hours: Additional hours available during delivery weeks by working on the routes as a greeter (late afternoon/early evening after packing) and warehouse projects on Monday/Tuesday on an as-needed basis. If you are interested in full-time hours, please make note of this when applying and we can discuss further during an interview.

SPECIAL ORDER TEAM MEMBER

Special order team members are responsible for packing custom orders placed online. Special orders inventory is quickly pulled each Wednesday morning, and orders are packed Wednesday through Friday in a refrigerated room.

 

Special orders begin with a print-out of the week’s items on order. Then,

  • Inventory is pulled from refrigerated and dry storage zones based on order needs
  • Items are packed into paper bags and boxes, checking for quality and accuracy, and organized by truck route.
  • Some packaging required, such as weighing out 3# of apples, bagging up peaches, etc.

 

Special orders is a fast paced, detail-oriented position. The order cutoff is Tuesday at midnight. Orders are printed at 7 AM on Wednesday, and the first 4 routes leave at 1:00 PM on Wednesday. In that 6 hour window, the week’s inventory must be pulled, organized, and the first 4 routes packed. It’s a race every week. 

 

Schedule: minimum Tuesday thru Friday, with Full Time preferred (Monday thru Friday)

DELIVERY ROUTE TRUCK DRIVER

CDL & non-CDL positions available. Driving is a small portion of the job; it is just a means to get the truck to the setup location.

 

The delivery route driver for customer pick-up locations is responsible for loading the truck at the warehouse, getting it to the delivery location, and helping with the distribution of customer orders at the location. This includes working with the Greeter/Market staff to setup a market display, finish packing totes on the truck, and fulfilling special orders. This position is full-time, Wednesday through Saturday.

At the warehouse, you work with a team of drivers to load our fleet of trucks with the packages packed by our Warehouse Associates, then part ways on your own truck to a designated location where you will meet up with a Greeter who interfaces with the customer. It’s a quick paced environment at the warehouse packing trucks. Prior warehouse experience is not required, though a plus.

 

While on location, drivers are working on the back of the refrigerated box truck, putting the finishing touches on our weekly grocery packages and customer orders. This portion of the role can be physical – you’ll need to be agile to move in small spaces. Strong organizational skills are beneficial to keep a tidy truck that’s quick and efficient to get customers their orders in a timely manner.  

Full-Time Schedule:

Wednesday/Thursday/Friday afternoon shift (12 to 8pm) and Saturday morning shift (8am to 4pm)

        *Opportunity for overtime exists throughout the season as additional drivers may be needed to fill in for an early morning farm run.

Pay: starts at $20 per hour, depending on license, driving record, and experience 

FARM ROUTE TRUCK DRIVER

The FARM ROUTE driver is responsible for for picking up product at multiple farm. Farmers will have the product prepared on pallets to be loaded onto the truck. At times, the driver is responsible for assisting with the loading & unloading process. Drivers will stop at 5 to 8 locations on any given farm run. While at each stop, the farmers will have the product prepared for loading on pallets and assist with loading the truck.

 

Driving: 24 foot box truck. We have CDL and non-CDL box trucks with automatic transmission. CDL not required, though certainly a plus. Pay based on driving experience.

 

Physical Requirements: Ability to climb up onto the back of the truck (steps and handrail). Push pallets around on back of truck with a pallet jack. Generally, the farmers do most of the loading for you. Back at the warehouse, the crew there will be ready to unload the truck when it gets back from the route.

Part-Time Schedule: Monday/Tuesday (late morning start), Thursday (early morning)

CUSTOMER SERVICE & OFFICE ASSISTANT

The Customer Service & Office Assistant will be our primary point of contact for handling customer inquiries, questions and assistance via phone and email, as well as assisting with various administrative needs in the office.

Customer inquiries range from setting up a new account, updating current season subscriptions, assisting with questions regarding special orders/payments/quality concerns/account management and more. Office duties will include a variety of tasks preparing materials for our pick up locations, reviewing/following up on paperwork returned from the routes, supply order management and some inventory management assistance for our online shop.

There will be times when you will be in the warehouse, assisting with order transfers. We are a small business and there will be times where you may need to chip in where there is a need in the packing room or special orders on Wednesday thru Friday. A majority of the time will be spent at a computer, along with time on the warehouse floor to shuffle orders and move product around.

Ideal candidate qualities

  • Friendly, personable attitude, capable of handling a variety of customer situations
  • Ability to identify customer needs, troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Capable of working with computer basics – Microsoft Office and Gmail

Customer Service background not required. Previous office/administrative experience is a plus.

Greeters meet our trucks at the pickup location and help check-in customers, pack special orders and provide an overall positive experience for our customers. This role is like that of a cashier at a traditional grocery store.

We have found that this is a great opportunity for those passionate about local foods and working close to home for even just one shift per week. Most greeters are your friendly neighbors that have been part of Fresh Fork for many years!

 

The greeter is responsible for:

  • Assisting customers and reviewing customer account information to fill orders
  • Verifying customer order accuracy
  • Creating orders on the spot for any extra items purchased
  • Working outdoors and on your feet for 3 to 6 hours at a time (rain or shine)
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds during setup/tear down of the market stand

 

Schedule: June through end of October.

We are looking for greeters at the following locations. You can work just 1 location per week, or select multiple stops throughout the week.

WORKING AT FRESH FORK

  • May - December is our busiest time of the year and opportunity for year-round employment is available for various positions/roles within our team. Our delivery schedule moves to every-other-week from January through April and hours may vary week to week based on duties. Full-time and part-time positions available.
  • Wednesday through Saturday are our busiest days at the warehouse and delivering product to customers.
  • All positions require heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs. Even a bulk box of kale can get heavy!)
  • You will be standing/walking/moving almost the entire shift. Comfortable and safe footwear is a must.
  • All positions require work outdoors and/or on a refrigerated truck or warehouse.
  • We are a small business. You will have specific roles & responsibilities, and you may find some hybrid tasks with other roles based on current business needs. We all work as a team and pitch in wherever needed, especially on delivery days!
