What kind of mushroom are in the package?
Oyster!
I’m wondering the same about the mushroom. Doesn’t look like an oyster to me. Hmmm….
Mine looks like the one in the large photo of all bag contents, not the oyster mushroom in the lone photo below. Are they just very young?
Just asked our grower: they are all oyster, but some are dwarfs because of the pin set was so large. They cook the same as traditionally shaped oysters and taste the same!
Even more details: “Some of the oysters might be presenting smaller because this species of oyster grows in particularly large pin sets. The full flush always needs to be harvested when it is fully matured (cannot be practically thinned, as with plant-based crops). So a few little guys will come along for the ride. These are mature and tasty and perfectly edible, but are teeny-tiny in presentation.”
How do you cook them?
Hi Laurie– an easy and delicious way to prepare them is just pan fry with a little oil or butter.
Is this considered a small or large share?
Hi Brendon! In the Winter Share, we have only one size, and just an Omnivore or a Vegetarian share (no larges and small, no vegan shares.) To get a better idea of small versus large, click here to check out last summer’s bags. Use the tabs to toggle between images so you can compare what comes in the different sizes. Also, FYI– the posts are chronological, so the first pictures you’ll see are from bags at the end of the season. Thanks!
