Winter Share 2011/12 – Week 5

This week we have a very special package.  I was able to get my hands on all kinds of produce (still unbelievable for mid-December) so I took it.  This week’s package is going to be extra hearty.  I really missed my budget on this one so the next couple packages might be slightly smaller or some packages later on.

The centerpiece of this week’s package is a delicious cherry preserve that Diane at Humble Pie Baking Company  has been working on for months.  It is a “brandied” cherry preserve, great with cheese, on crackers, or served on a fine quick bread.  So to make that easier, we worked with Clark Pope Catering this week to get a tasty apple “pound bread.”  We don’t know what to call it really. It is kind of like a quick bread, but without the oil, and similar to a pound cake but more savory.  It is really quite tasty and should make a nice compliment to the preserve or cheese.  These two items will be sure to impress your guests this holiday season.

On the meats side, we will all get two pounds of ground beef and one package (approx 1.25 lbs) of andouille, which is a smoked, spanish sausage that is slightly spicy.  It is great served hot or cold.  I usually serve mine cold on a cheese tray!

On the produce side, we have lots of goodies.  Brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, onions, pak choi, leaf lettuce, mixed greens, and cabbage.

Finally, we do have a cheese this week.  Goat milk Feta from Lucky Penny Creamery in Kent.

I think that’s it.  I’ve talked to so many farmers in the last week that I might have ordered someother goodies…can’t remember!

Here’s all of this week’s bag contents:
