TURKEYS -- Market & Heritage Breed (fresh, never-frozen, non-gmo, pasture raised)
ALL THE FIXINGS PRODUCE PACKAGE -- Locally sourced produce box with pantry staples for your feast
PIES -- Pumpkin & Apple
Our turkeys are raised on pasture, roaming freely in search of sprouts, bugs, and forage on our family farm - Wholesome Valley Farm - in Holmes County. Our pastures are planted intentionally for turkeys - rich in perennial grasses & legumes as well as annual "treats" like sunflowers, sorghum, and millet. This encourages the natural foraging behavior, developing a healthy & flavorful turkeys. Since turkeys need additional supplements via a traditional feed, we source our non-gmo, transitional organic feed from local farmers as well.
Turkeys are harvested just days before thanksgiving and delivered fresh (never-frozen). You can pick-up your Thanksgiving order at one of our 12 area pick-up locations the Monday through Wednesday of Thanksgiving week.
turkeys
market
Our most popular turkey, the Broad Breasted Bronze [bred for more white meat], is the right choice for a majority of customers. These turkeys roam a 10 acre pasture planted with a mix of sorghum, sunflowers, clover, and millet. The tall stalks of the sorghum provide natural shade for the turkeys. When looking out on the pasture, hundreds of turkeys scurry to find the next "shiny" object and peck freely for bugs and sprouts in the ground.
Market turkeys weights will range from 14 to 25 pounds.
Price per pound varies by weight range
Less than 15 - $6.50 per pound
15 to 20 - $6 per pound
20 to 25 - $5.75 per pound
Over 25 - $5.50 per pound
heritage
Our limited supply heritage breed turkeys -- American Standard Bronze -- have a devoted fan base. These turkeys have more juicy, dark meat than the market birds. The 100 heritage birds roam a 5 acre pasture with a mix of forage greens and trees. The trees provide natural shade and a spot for the turkeys to perch. Yes, these turkeys can be pretty wild at time and will fly up to roost in the evenings in the tree limbs.
The weights of these turkeys will vary wildly by gender -- hen or tom. The hens are small -- in the past the average weight is about 10 pounds. Toms can be much larger and have a wider weight range, varying from 12 to 15 pounds and even larger at 17 to 20 pounds. Note -- these averages are from last year and may change this year.
We are considering harvesting these earlier than we have in the past so we can get an accurate read on weight options. If we do this, the turkey would be frozen. As Thanksgiving gets closer, we will send out an update about this.
Price per pound varies by weight range
Hen (less than 12 pounds)- $9.25 per pound
Tom (greater than 12) - $9 per pound
